Dental Benefits of Eating Dairy

Here at Draper Family and Cosmetic Dentistry in Albemarle, North Carolina, we love your teeth and want to give you the dazzling smile that you have always dreamed of. Eating dairy is one of the ways to do it. Today we are going to be discussing about how eating dairy products is good for your teeth. We are also going to include other foods that will help your teeth and gums as well.

When you drink nothing but sugary products and eat starchy foods you are feeding the bacteria that causes plaque to grow on your teeth. Plaques is a thin invisible film of very sticky and gross bacteria that will consume your entire mouth. When all the sugar and starch get in your mouth and comes in contact with the plaque will eat away at the enamel on your teeth and that will cause tooth decay and your teeth will start to rot and then it will start to break down your gums, bone and the other things that support your teeth. However, those types of food invite tooth decay with open arms, there is others that you can eat that will fight against the plaque.

Eating Dairy and These Types of Foods Will Help Your Teeth and Gums

  • Dairy products like cheese, milk, yogurt, is super great for your gums and teeth. Cheese makes saliva and the calcium that’s in it, milk, and the other dairy products will put back the minerals that you might have lost while eating the sugary foods. Also, the calcium will help strengthen your bones and teeth.
  • You can eat fruits and vegetables they are high in fiber, they get your saliva going and that helps push out left-over food particles. It is the best natural defense against cavities and gum disease. After you eat sugary and starchy foods your saliva will reduce the acids and enzymes that’s helping your teeth.
  • You can chew sugar free gum. This is a wonderful saliva maker that will help get rid of leftover food particles from your mouth.
  • Eat foods that contains nutrients. Drink water that contains fluoride, and any type of food that you make with it helps your teeth. You can also eat seafood, and cereals that can give you fluoride.
